Connecting to Your Camera's Network
Ricoh THETA cameras provide their own WiFi network, which is how your phone talks to the camera. After you set up the initial connection, your phone will remember the network and display it in your WiFi settings.
- Power on your camera.
- Open your phone's WiFi settings.

From the list of available networks, select your camera's network.
*Syncing from the Encircle app will be temporarily paused while you are connected to the THETA's network. Encircle data created during that time will be saved in your sync queue in the app. When you're done taking 360° photos, make sure you reconnect to your previous network and the app will start syncing again.
Taking 360° Photos
Once you're connected to the network, open Encircle and follow these steps to take 360° photos.
Single Shot Mode (Small/Regular Rooms)
Single Shot mode is recommended for small or regular spaces where you can step around a corner or away from the camera’s view without going out of range, so you don’t end up in the shot.
- In the room where you want to take the photo, tap the red + button.
- Select Add Photos & Videos.
- Or select Add Room Note if you wish to add the photo to a note.
- When the camera opens, select 360° mode.
- Select Connect to RICOH THETA.

If you take multiple 360° photos in the same session, you shouldn't have to click this each time, as the app will remember your last selection.

- Select Single Shot mode if it's not already selected.
- Tap the white capture button to take a photo.

The camera snaps a photo from the front lens, then the rear lens, and stitches them into one 360° photo.
- You can review the photo and retake if necessary. Otherwise, tap Save.

Tap Done when finished taking photos.
Time Shift Mode (Large Rooms)
Time Shift mode is recommended for large spaces such as warehouses, lofts, gymnasiums, etc, where you can’t step away from the camera’s view without going out of range. This mode allows you to stand on either side of the camera while the opposite lens is taking a photo, so you are not captured in final image.
- In the room where you want to take the photo, tap the red + button.
- Select Add Photos & Videos.
- Or select Add Room Note if you wish to add the photo to a note.
- When the camera opens, select 360° mode.
- Select Connect to RICOH THETA.

The camera will take the photo in two steps; first the front lens and then the back. Stand behind the back lens as the first image is captured. There will be a delay for you to move to the other side of the camera, and the second image will be captured.
- You can review the photo and retake if necessary. Otherwise, tap Save.

Tap Done when finished taking photos.
*THETA SC and S do not support Time Shift Mode. THETA X, Z1, SC2, and V do support Time Shift Mode.
Allowing Access to Local Networks
The first time you attempt to take a 360° photo, you should be prompted to allow Encircle to access local WiFi networks. Make sure you allow this; otherwise your phone will not connect to your THETA camera.
If you miss this step or deny the permission, you can go into the Apps settings on your phone and enable the permissions for Encircle there.
360° Camera Settings
- When the 360° camera view open, tap the ⚙ gear icon at the top right.
- Up top under Camera you'll see the battery level and photo capacity left on the camera.
- Under Shutter Modes you can adjust the delay settings for the camera. For Time Shift mode, you can extend the delay time in between snaps, so you have more time to move to the other side of the camera.

For Single Shot mode you can adjust the delay time before the shot is taken.
